What
‘Hohnen’s Stairs’. The word ‘Hohen’s’ is etched into the left-hand sandstone newel below the finial. The right-hand newel has the word ‘Stairs’ etched into it. The stairs run between Palmer Street and Kings Lane.
The marriage of a Charles Joseph Hohnen to Eliza Girling was reported in The Sydney Morning Herald on Thursday 12 April 1860. And The Sydney Morning Herald on Wednesday 5 March 1890 lists a workshop available to let at 213 Palmer Street, with inquiries to be directed to C J Hohnen. The stairs run alongside 213 Palmer Street.
