Listing details

What

‘Oscar Harvey & Co. Pty. Ltd.’ painted sign.

The sign was black and white paint applied directly to the brickwork. It was painted on the external wall facing William Street near the corner of the building.

The date it was built is not know for certain but the NSW Office of Environment & Heritage states that the building was on the site in March 1945.

The building has been demolished. The sign is still visible on Google Maps Street View in July 2014.

The company name is likely also styled as Oscar Harvey and Co. Pty. Ltd. – This stylisation was used in an advertisement in The Sydney Morning Herald in 1969 [SMH, 1969]. I assume this is the same company – it is the same company name and uses the tagline ‘The Pulley People’. However the address listed is not the same as the location of the sign (45 William Street, Beaconsfield).
