Listing details

What

Newspaper advertising sign. The sign is black and yellow paint applied directly to the brickwork. It has been partially destroyed to add a downpipe to the building. It is painted on the external wall facing Parker Lane.

It is likely the sign advertised a newspaper stocked at a newsagency trading from the building. The words ‘Daily’, ‘Special’ and ‘Sporting’ are still visible. The line below ‘Sporting’ could be ‘Features’. The line below the is ‘Published daily’.

Currently 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art is located in this building, alongside other businesses.

A photograph by David Moore taken circa 1948 shows a newsagent operating from the building. In Moore’s photo the front of the shop has a painted sign for The Sun and The Telegraph newspapers. The photograph is in the collection of the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
